ABOUT
Sam Carey is a London-based Composer, Singer/Songwriter, Arranger and Multi-Instrumentalist. Recent composer projects include the short thriller The Background Model for which he was nominated for Best Music at the Top Indie Film Awards, and the concert piece Shadows On Glass which premiered at Bush Hall.Carey has 40+ credits working in film, television, video-games, audio-dramas, plays and ballets. From Sept 2021 until Sept 2025, he assisted renowned composer Ilan Eshkeri and Grammy-winning producer Steve McLaughlin, and he continues to contribute to their work as an additional writer. Other significant collaborations include working with Matt Bellamy (Muse), Tim Carter (Kasabian), Tim Wheeler (Ash) and Andy Burrows (Razorlight/We Are Scientists), as well as composers Atli Örvarsson and Blair Mowat.Carey's credits include arranging music for the following films, TV and video-games:Several expansion packs of video-game The Sims 4

His compositional style is characterised by the skilful handling of strong themes, which develop intricately through an evolving picture. As well as implementing orchestral and electronic forces, he plays instruments on much of his work, incorporating piano, guitar, violin and voice.As a songwriter, Carey writes thoughtful acoustic / alternative-folk music. He released his debut EP 'Mindset' in 2016, and has since released a number of singles. Carey's songwriting roots are evident across his work, with an emotional sensibility that sets him apart from other film composers.

Mindset (EP) - August 2016
A four track acoustic-pop EP, which stands as an ode to Sam Carey's teenage years. Recorded when he was 17 at the Song Diner in Bristol, the four tracks of Mindset are linked by introspective lyrics that reveal Carey's personal side.Full review by Santiago Garcia, NO MORE DIVISION, 28/10/2016:'Sam Carey, a talented 18-year-old singer/songwriter, recorded an excellent acoustic-driven project titled Mindset EP. The multi-instrumental artist from Bristol, UK played and recorded his own vocals, piano melodies, bass, violin and melodic guitar, and laid down an introspective look into his life.This album starts out with the track “Living Free” and a cheerful, melodic pop-acoustic sound. The voice is interesting; it’s deep, raw and genuine. The smooth guitar melodies walk right along the lyrics and they’re all complemented with a nice guitar riff at the hook and a piano that tie it all together.The next track “Under My Skin” has a faster, more folky sound. The guitar kicks in heavy and leads the rhythm throughout the whole song. The lyrics are more frustrated, not as feel-good as before, and complement the fast-paced guitar. This track goes deeper into the protagonist, it goes...under his skin.Mindset EP transitions again into a much slower, melodic song on “Close to the Flame” and a good contrast to the last track. Throughout this track there is a unique sound, pop acoustic and similar to the first song, but with more contrasting melodies. It has backup vocals splashed throughout and violins that distort and make the sound more complex.The album leads into the fourth track “Shadow that Shines” which introduces a powerful and vocals-driven sound. The vocals lead throughout this last track compared to the guitar in the other songs. The violin complements the lyrics adding an accent to powerful parts of the song. It’s a great composition that does a spot-on job in wrapping up the internal look into singer/songwriter Sam Carey and Mindset EP.'

An intense psychological short period drama by Josh Bale.Carey wrote the two minute piece 'A Dance At Owl Creek', which starts at 10:10 in the film.
The Background Model - Thriller - February 2024
A short thriller by filmmaker Dor Sinai, which is a demo for a feature script. A tense and unsettling score, accentuating the unfolding outburst of a deranged screen-writer. Received a nomination for Best Music from the Top Indie Film Awards 2024.
Inflorescence - Romance - August 2023
A short independent film by Sandrine Sugi & Andrew Anastasis. A sensitive romantic score, which portrays both the excitement and conflict of a newly moved-in couple.
